Purpose
“We’re gonna get to that place.
Where we really want to go, and we’ll walk in the sun” 1
Purpose
Writing is how I figure out what I think.
- Why this blog exists: An outlet for my thoughts, not a manifesto on life.
- What to expect: Notes on what I’m reading, including a running series of 7-Word Summaries.
- What I’m borrowing: Thomas Merton wrote to figure out what he thought. Same idea. Minus the monastery.
Go Deeper
The problem. My thoughts keep me up at night. Writing them down beats staring at the ceiling.
The reading gap. I read a lot. I highlight, annotate, and then forget. Every note-taking system I’ve tried has slid off.
The 7-Word Summary. Found on Medium recently. The rules:
- Keep one notebook, digital or paper.
- After a chapter or passage worth keeping, summarize the takeaway in seven words or fewer.
- Review a few notes morning or evening.
- Weekly, pick one and apply it.
- Share one in conversation.
I’ll post 7WS (7-Word Summary) entries regularly, pulled from books I’m rereading or skimming for highlights.
